"Hi Bratz World!
Five(-ish) Fun Questions with the Cast of the Bratz Film. Those talented ladies are of course:
Nathalia Ramos as Yasmin
Skyler Shaye as Cloe
Logan Browning as Sasha
Janel Parrish as Jade
This was a wonderful face to face interview here in New York City as the cast was filming their Coldstone Creamery segement for E. They came in and took over the whole shop and created and served their custom flavor Brattitude to some unknowing and amazed patrons. Afterward we got to talk a bit before they headed off to host TRL!
Below this fun interview check out a special treat via email from a certain Bad Girl! :)
BW: What was the first thing you said and did, when you got the news that you would be one of the people that would bring the Bratz dolls to life?
Janel and Nathalia I screamed too.
Janel And then I went out and bought my doll.
Logan I was at a basketball game and my mom told me and I ran around the gym actually!
Skyler I was on the way to The Grove ironically, where they shot the film, I was in the car, I was screaming.
BW: It must be intense, bringing an iconic doll line to life and now you are the face of that line.
BW: Who have been the most influential people in your lives (family or public figure)?
Nathalia My family, like the dolls, like the girls in the movie, we all have a really close bond with our family and theyre our biggest support system, and I mean our family and our friends, they keep us grounded, they keep us who we are.
Skyler For myself, my grandparents, my godfather, my mother, my uncles, my dad.
Logan Yeah my parents and my brothers, my brothers are really inspirational to me.
Janel My whole family, I am really best friends with my sister, and my parents moved out here from Hawaii for me to LA for me.
BW: When you have time off, which I am sure is rare, what is a perfect day for you?
Skyler Hang out at home, go out for coffee with friends.
Logan Yeah hang out back at home, I drive my Saturn around and just chill and hang out with my friends.
Janel Hang out at home and mess around on my piano all day literally!.
BW: Besides acting, what are your goals and dreams for the future?
Skyler For myself acting is my passion its my dream so other than acting, I would say producing.
Logan Yeah acting, singing the whole nine yards. Im going to school in the fall at Vanderbilt, so yeah Im excited about that.
Janel For me acting as well but music is my first love, I have a song on the soundtrack that I wrote, so I am working with Geffen.
(Youll see her cool music video during the end credits of the film so make sure to stay during the credits to see it! BW)
BW: What is your advice to others who want to follow in your footsteps and make their dreams come true?
Skyler If you have a dream go for it, and its really persistence determination and work, just work at it. I mean theres a lot of rejection in the acting world and its hard to take and its at times just discouraging..
BW: How do you get over that?
Logan My Grandmother tells me to find your passion and pursue it with all your heart so thats what I live by, live your dreams, I live by mottos like that, I love those quotes. And you know you find that one thing thats your niche and you go for it.
Janel The most important thing Id say is believe in yourself because my dad always tells me if you believe in yourself everybody will, if you dont believe in yourself nobody will. Thats the most important thing.
Hey guess who isnt such a Mean Girl? Yes the other star of the Bratz movie the one youll love to hate (in of course a fun way!) but also admire because her talent is unmistakable, Chelsea Staub checked in through email to share with Bratz World!
From Chelsea:
Hello,
I'm so flattered! Here you go....
BW: Was it hard to play such a "mean girl"? What was your reaction when you found out you got the part of the ultimate Bad Girl of the Bratz World?
BW: Who has been the most influential person to you (family or public figure)?
BW: When you have time off, which I am sure is rare, what is a perfect day for you?
BW: Besides acting, what are your goals and dreams for the future?
BW: What is your advice to others who want to follow in your footsteps?
Creating their own Ice Cream flavor at Coldstone Creamery and naming it "Brattitude!" :)
Signing autographs and taking pix before the private screening
The Bratz Cast greets the fans!
The sound on this was just one big buzz but I love the darkened theater the light flashes and that rockstar feel. It shows you how much fun people were having and even during the film they were cheering and clapping along and in some cases even some fun booing! Hey there is a bad girl in there what else are Bratz fans going to do? :)
Here are pix from my visit with MGA at the recent Lisc show where the actresses real fashions used in the film were on display. Click to go to the Flickr gallery to see the large sizes for more detail.
The Bratz girls in "Bratz The Movie" are not all rich, their families are not all picture perfect, but this movie shows these characters helping and sometimes being the most mature person in the home, like with Sasha and her divorced parents. The film shows people, not just teens, breaking out of cozy cliches, finding skills they thought they would never have, and stepping out from behind a domineering person's shadow and sacrificing for a friend. So what is wrong with that? Not a thing. The girls go to a mall too "OMG"! They like fashion and looking nice too! "OMG"! There is a MEAN girl in the film!!! "OMG"! It's an all too common theme in almost every school kid's life, so critics better take some deep relaxing breaths because there will be more "Mean" themed films in the future I'm sure. Bullies are not the property of just one movie.
The stars of this film are going to loom large in future film careers too. Skyler Shaye is already garnering notice for her unmistakable depth shown in her portrayal of Cloe and her caring is as genuine as any real-life teen girl faced with a parent they love, struggling to make ends meet. Logan Browning as Sasha, is as fun and diverse in her skill and I can't decide if she will be the next Halle Berry or Meg Ryan- how about a combination of both? She has a great natural ability like those actresses to be fun and funny without crossing over into caricature. Janel Parrish as Jade, is equally adept at singing, dancing and acting as is Nathalia Ramos as Yasmin. Both could vie for a future standing of say, a Julia Roberts, able to play in fun yet deeper romantic roles or they may decide to head to music's Top 10 Billboard charts. Chelsea Staub as Meredith, already has an idea of her direction, and if she lends her talents to even more future villainous heroines (http://bratz-world.diaryland.com/bratzcast.html "Bratz Cast Interview") then we have some fun film characters we'll "love to hate" to look forward to.
The Bratz Dolls have always been on the forefront of fashion and style since their creation and this movie is merely bringing that aspect to life too. Are these film characters any different than the doll's "characters"? No, even the actresses have stated identifying with the doll's elements of style and "personality". The Bratz Dolls line has covered music and sports and caring for animals and yes fashion design among many things. This is a seamless transition, cutting edge fashion dolls become "real" people. Curious how that would look? Then go see the movie.
A few people I have come across on the web seem to downplay the value of what the Bratz characters show as their talents in this film. Walk out the door and play soccer with skill, flip in the air without breaking your neck, sew entire wardrobes, ace science projects, hold a note and dance with ability.. many can't can they? It's because it takes practice and dedication to become that good. So what's wrong with that? Oh and they are, by the way, in high school. These things are important to many teens in school so to downplay these talents as trivial seems silly- they are not in the workplace yet, so be fair.
I have read people put down the film because it was, they claim, just a long commercial. Interesting that any person can go to a film and see nothing but products. What a perfect consumer for advertisers. The exact kind of thing supposedly true in the Bratz movie, in fact is only true about folks who will watch this film and come away with only seeing product ads. Just a consumer looking to spend money, and that is not the Bratz storyline. Every single film has product placements, not just this one, and like all those other films, there is a story to be enjoyed, not a "commercial".
If a teen came out just like the Bratz girls in this feature, their families would be proud. Decent caring helpful people with skills and talents that take work to achieve. Even bad girl Meredith shows considerable talent and skill, you would just hope that real-life Merediths would have their abilities harnessed for good not evil! Too bad a few things I have read seem to be bewitched by the shiny objects that you will see in the movie. If these kinds of people really opened their eyes they would see a great positive film, filled with messages that would help, not hinder, any child or teen.
